    Granddaughter is with us today

Spring break so all the kids around here are out of school. Today, we are graced with our granddaughter Sydney. Pretty good kid really. Though she enjoys bugging grandpa to no end. Here are some pictures taken of her today.

This is her holding Uncle Charley. Wife has had this since she was in Germany some 30 years back. She got it because it bore an uncanny resemblance to one of her uncles, Charley. Through thick and thin, she has kept that framed picture. Uncle Charley has even survived me, who wanted to see it gone, but got nowhere. And all the kids and grandkids keep bugging the wife for Uncle Charley, in hopes she will part with him. Oldest granddaughter told wife that since she is the oldest, it should go to her if and when we pass on. Told wife one time that when we really get on in age, let’s auction it off and see how serious everyone is about wanting Uncle Charley.

She is cute, no doubt about it! And with her cell phone, she is becoming the text queen.

    Your Brain On Credit

Okay, got the wedding invite from my daughter down in Texas. The one that does not recognize me as her father. And yes, the wedding invite plainly states “daughter of (mother and her husband)”. So it is official, I am not her dad, but the guy her mother married about 4 years ago. Now should I send her a check? Or just a note saying “Who are you and why did I get an wedding invite?”.

    Went Shopping

My wife uses Walgreens’ online photo order process to of course order pictures she wants prints of, or prints so she can put in photo albums for the grandkids. Pretty good deal really, as she just uploads the pictures she wants printed out to their site, click order. Then Walgreens sends her an email of the time they will be ready for pickup and where.

So this morning, off to walgreens’ we go to pick up the latest big batch of pictures, plus more photo albums to put them in. She has a photo album for each of our grandchildren and she passes them out to each one every time she fills up another one. As the wife says, if we have to rely on our kids to take pictures, put them in photo albums for the grandkids, we would be waiting forever!

Then off to wally world to get what she wants to get (I have no say, she makes her list and gets what she has on the list). One item we needed were new ink cartridges for our printer. Damn things are costly!!

Oh, will mention. On the way, when we got off the interstate heading to Indianola, I got tabbed for speeding! Yep, doing 67 in a 55 zone. Wife laughed and joked about me speeding and finally after years and years, actually getting stopped and getting a ticket. Told the cop that it is bad enough I pay income taxes to Iowa, now I have to pay more. He laughed and wished me a good day.

Wake up and realize, you’re driving a car.
    It isn’t a telephone booth,
a beauty saloon, a beer parlor, a restaurant
or a moving bird watching platform.

Remember, the life you save may be mine!

The “Teardrop” memorial is real and is a 100-foot September 11th sculpture that was donated by the Russian people and is located in New Jersey.

The memorial was dedicated on September 11, 2006 in a ceremony attended by former President Bill Clinton. Also in attendance were Michael Chertoff, the Bush Adminstration Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, and family members of World Trade Center victims. Recording artist Leann Rimes sang the National Anthem and Amazing Grace at the dedication ceremony.

Monster Cookies – Great for Celiacs

Okay, got the recipe from the wife and going to put it here and on my food recipes blog.

Keep in mind that this recipe makes a huge batch of dough, so do as my wife did. Just bake what you want and the rest of the dough, separate out into logs and freeze them.

And yes, you will need a big (as in really big) bowl to mix all the ingredients.

    6 Eggs

2 1/4 cups of brown sugar

    2 cups of white sugar

    1 1/2 teaspons of  vanilla

1 1/2 tsp of white syrup (karo syrup)

    4 tsp of baking soda

    1 cup of butter

    3 cups of peanut butter

9 cups of oatmeal (old fashion oats only, not instant oats)

1 cup of chocolate chips (wife used white chocolate chips)

    1 cups of M&M’s

1 cup of either peanuts or walnuts (wife used walnuts)

Now this is important: mix the ingredients in the order given above!

Bake in over at 350 degrees. 10-12 minutes only, do not overbake!

I tell you, these cookies are awesome! And tasty, yum-yum!

Both our Aunt Louise and one sister who are celiacs loved these cookies! In fact, Aunt Louise said bring me more each time you visit!
