    Wife is home

Got them all picked up yesterday, about 445pm. Fun downtown Des Moines as the Wingding motorcycle parade was getting set up. Heck of a lot of motorcycles all over the place (and they were supposed to meet and line up on Grand, so why were so many driving down 3rd, 4th and Walnut?

So had this bright idea that we would come home and have steaks for dinner. After all, I had bought the steaks and all the fixings earlier in the day. Well, once everyone got in the van, wife said we have got to stop at the first place that has restrooms. For the bus did not stop long enough anywhere for the passengers to go to a restroom! So they were all itching to go as it had been over 7 hours since any of them had been to a restroom. Now me, that bus would have stopped! Now you have to know Des Moines. It is not like other cities! There are no gas stations and little stores on every street and street corner. Same with getting on I-235. In Houston, one can take ANY exit off the interstate and know there is at least one gas station/convenience store. But not in Des Moines! So we got to Civic Mills and stopped at a Kum & Go. A Kum & Go with a damn McDonald’s attached! Guess what everyone wanted to do? Yes, again after being on the bus for almost 7 hours with no food (just the snacks and drinks they brought) all were hungry. And of course the grandkids were in hog heaven with that McDonald’s right there as they came out the restrooms. It was swill time. Just swill. Yes, my opinion and it does count for a lot. I swear that the double meat cheeseburger meal I bought at a high price was the same damn thing my wife got cheaper but under another name. But did get free samples of their new berry freezes (or whatever they call them) and they were worth it. Got grandson and granddaughter, who did not want one, to get one anyway just to give to me. Told grandson, one bit of advice I can give you that will do you good for the rest of your life is to never but never turn down anything free. At that, our son said “hey, want a free guinea pig?”. Grandkids said no way that Dorothy (their hugely fat guinea pig) would ever leave them.

We got home and granddaughter, wife and son went to our daughter’s up the street. Granddaughter to get with our other granddaughter there so they could swap stories on their adventures. One about Chicago, the other about the Justin Beiber concert the day or so before. So it was grandson and I, watching the food network. That kid loves that channel!

This morning bright and early, they all left to go back to Missouri.

Coming up are some pictures (just a few out of the odd 100 taken on our camera and another odd 100 taken on son’s camera). Heck, wife spent some time upload the videos and pictures to her facebook page.

Later in the morning, wife and daughter went to wally world and the grocery store. Having a big cookout at daughter’s house tomorrow, so had to get lots of stuff. Plus more stuff my wife said we needed to survive. Now the pantry is officially overloaded, the freezer is overloaded and the fridge has so much I had to unload half a shelf to get to the ice tea.

Oh, when I picked everyone up, grandson says to me “grandpa, what do you think of my new cap?”. I said “whoa, a Reds cap!”. He was not amused. Okay, the Chicago Cubs, see the C above? They played the Cincinnati Reds, who also use a C.

Now it is time for me to take a break.

You all have a SAFE and HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
