Weekend Fun
Had a fun weekend with our grandkids. Yes, the three grandkids in Des Moines, and their mother, came down Friday evening. They of course stayed with our daughter up the street. Except for our grandson Jordan. He stayed the night with us.
Thus the conversation with Jordan Saturday morning about him moving down here. Yes, he is 20 and autistic. But he said he would rather be down here with family, and the fact that one sister of my wife is moving in the end apartment from us sort of sold that idea for Jordan. Don’t know if they will rent a unit to him, but will check it out and push it if they say no. You know, federal laws about disabled, living next to us, etc. Anyways, that will be an entire process to be taken a bit slow. His mother really thought it was a super idea and she told him it would be in his interests to move here.
Then it was his wallet! Hahahahhaha…he has had this wallet for like 8 years so far (not as long as I have had mine) and it is a fat thing. So his mother and my wife took the wallet and went through it. He has gift cards for Burger King, Target, Wal Mart, and even more places. Like 20 to 25 gift cards alone! Filling up his wallet. They told him, it is time you started using the gift cards before they expire or you lose them. Then he had like 37 dollar bills. Now that will fatten up a wallet real quick. So they convinced him that he need a new wallet plus cut back on the bills. Since he had a bunch of checks from his birthday/graduation party to sign, they all went to the bank and deposited the checks in his own account. Plus most of the money he had in his wallet. Then later, our grandson Kaleb took him shopping for a new wallet. He came home with a Harley Davidson wallet and he was so proud of it. Moved every thing from the old wallet to the new wallet. Said, got to have a burial for the old wallet (that part coming up later here). Plus he bought an iTouch Ipod! He was tickled to get that one because now he can text message everyone. Plus of course, he spent some of his fortune without any adults around to tell him what to buy.
Then in the evening we all went to our daughter’s place for fun and games. Everyone wanted to play the bean bag game. So we created teams of 2 and got both bean bag games going. One granddaughter, Monica, picked me from the start to be her partner. Now this is the granddaughter (she is 12) who rarely talks to me or hugs me. So it surprised me! Anyways we had a blast playing. And I told her, you need to go back to bean bag school! Jordan just laughed and laughed at that one!
Then as it started to get dark, it was double elimination time. No teams, just the ten of us facing off. I came in number two losing finally to my son-in-law. Then we got the firepit going good and made s’mores. That was when we had the cremation of Jordan’s old wallet. Everyone took his wallet and said something about it before he laid it in the fire. It was an emotional time. Yeah right!
We sat around and talked and talked until it was after midnight! And my wife, god bless her, allowed me to have three beers! hahahahhahaha…said any more and she would drive home. So we came home.
Woke up today with my back aching something fierce. Still aches. That is payback for playing all those games and playing with the grandkids. And rain. We got a small rainfall. Mostly cloudy today after the rain. But muggey as no breeze.
And now for the start of another week. Some time midweek wife’s sister will be moving in. All the way from Coralville to here.
You all have a great week. If you still work, then work well. If you don’t work, don’t work.
