Today, just taking it easy again. Sun shining and nice out side. I was out a few times earlier and did not even wear a jacket or sweater, just long sleeved shirt. Good weather so that I finished out the kitchen door to better winterize it, took the burnable trash out to the burn barrel and got it taken care of (should all be ashes by now), and went down to the store to get a few items. Wife went to a neighbors as she had got a ton of apples from a friend and gave wife a big bag of fresh red apples picked locally. So wife cut a bunch of them and is baking right now an apple pie of some sort. Oh, and since our dog loves apples so much, she took a small one and gave it to her. Coco, our dog, played with that apple for a long time, not even trying to bite into it or eat it. She has it still in her bed. Wife said if she does not start eating it, she will take it from her and cut it up for her to eat.

Watching some good college football. Oklahoma Sooners beat Kansas State earlier, saw that game in it’s entirety. Darn good game! Now into half time of the Oklahoma State/Texas game. Though I hate to say it, just to help out the Sooners I am rooting for OSU to beat Texas! And other games flipping around watching plus the ongoing scores. WIth more great games coming up tonight.

And how is your weekend going so far?

Well this morning my wife picked as the time to clean out the flower gardens. So out there pruning all the dead parts from the flower plants so the green and flowers will show better. Plucked up a few plants that were either dead or close to it, or were in the way of other plants. And of course, a quick pass of the hoe to wipe out the few weeds there were and to break up the top soil layer crust. Have to admit, the flower gardens look great now. At least until first freeze knocks most of the if not all back to the ground. Prediction for us for first freeze is about a week from now. Yike! That means we will be a step closer to winter.

The tomato and jalapeno pepper plants have only a few more days of life left. Still have some good sized tomatoes on the plants that are pinking out now. Plus blossoms still coming on! Wife said in a few more days, will pick all tomatoes and pull the plants out. Same with the jalapenos, already got a good crop and probably have about 18-24 more than will also be picked off in a few days before the plants themselves are yanked up.

Okay, just got through printing out our 2006 tax returns, both federal and state of Iowa. Have to figure out why Iowa for 2007 wants to tax my retirement. Shortly will print out 2007 federal and then go to our daughter’s and print out our Iowa 2007 return, if she did not delete from their computer. Then compare and get things ready to fight Iowa!

Watching the Kansas City Chiefs play the Carolina Panthers. Carolina is ahead so far 7-0 at the start of the second quarter. Of course, wife and I are rooting for the Chiefs! And flipping to another channel to watch the Chicago Bears play Detroit Lions. Into the second quarter with that game, Bears up 3-0. Ooops! Chicago forced the Lion quarterback to fumble the ball and now have possession.

Okay, new post for the ongoing Hawkeye-Cyclone football game.

Right now, Hawkeyes have the ball. Hope they get it down the field and score! For sure, the Cyclones owned the third quarter!

Hawkeyes ran it to the 5 yard line! First down coming up! Great way to start the fourth quarter!

HAWKEYES SCORE! RAN IT INTO THE END ZONE!!!!!

PAT is good! Now the score is 10-3 with the Hawkeyes in front. Wife is happy!!!!

Cyclones, after doing a good job of moving the ball down the field, had to settle for a field goal attempt that failed.

Now the Hawkeyes have the ball and hopefully they will move down and score.

(#13 Kansas lost to #19 South Florida, 34-37)

Hawkeyes had to punt the ball. Cyclones now have it on their own 20. Will see what develops on this drive.

HOT DAMN! Cyclones had to punt and Hawkeyes ran the punt back 82 yards for a touchdown!!!!!! Now the score is 17-3…..

Okay, was on the phone with our son, so I missed out on a touchback by the Cylones.

But still, the game is over and the Hawkeyes did win! 17-5 and that is what matters most to my wife!

The rain finally ceased here sometime after midnight. So far, the radar is showing nothing coming our way. Even checked the radar in Omaha, Nebraska and Kansas City, Missouri to see anything coming from the west and the south. And the expected track of Hurricane Ike seem to be way south of us, Ike swinging east through Arkansas.

Have the three grandkids from Des Moines down here for the weekend. They are staying at our daughter’s house but am sure the boys will be here later and will spend the night here. The girls I am sure will make an appearance here, if for nothing more than to get some sweets and candies.

Now we are watching the big game of the day. The Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones playing each other in a so far great game in Iowa City. End of the first quarter has our Hawkeyes barely ahead at 3-0. They are playing on a very wet field as the rains there ended just before the game started and projections are a strong possibility of more rain sometime later during the game.

Football update: into the second quarter, still Hawkeyes 3-0 with them having the ball now. Super! A great pass and reception just now. First down for the Hawkeyes on the 15 yard line.

Halftime; Still Hawkeyes 3-0 over the Iowa State Cyclones.

Start of half: ISU Cylones started with the ball and still have it and driving down to the goal line. Oops, they just got hit with delay of game penalty! Now they call a time out with time running down.

Hawkeyes INTERCEPTED!!!! They have the ball on the one yard line.

Okay, they got nowhere and had to punt off. Giving the Cyclones great field position to try again.

Cyclones missed a field goal after some exciting moments of moving the ball close to the goal line!

 Darn!!! Hawkeyes gave up the ball awful fast with a Cyclone interception.

Cyclones finally get on the board with a field goal.  Now it is 3-3.

Grandkids came by, but wife chased them away! She is watching the game and wants no interruptions or noise!
